Our Next Steps

Democracy doesn’t start and stop on Election Day.

That’s what I was thinking yesterday, watching the results of our hard work as the most diverse Congress in history was sworn in.

Thanks in no small part to our efforts here in Georgia, Democrats changed the national conversation and began to shift the balance of power by winning back the U.S. House of Representatives. I’m sure you saw the same thing I did: new lawmakers celebrating a Congress with historic numbers of women, members of the LGBTQ community, and people of color.

But then I saw them do something else. I saw them get to work.

They understand the same thing that you and I do -- that we cannot stop and we cannot rest until we make our state and nation a better place for all of us.

That’s why I am excited to announce my candidacy for Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia!

I have never stopped fighting for Georgia Democrats. From my first Party gathering to the 2018 election, when I stumped for candidates across the state and protested GOP election-rigging, I have fought alongside you for the values we all believe in.

Throughout my journey with our Party, I have been honored to serve you and my fellow Georgians as a National Committee Woman for the Young Democrats of Georgia, a Post Seat Holder and First Vice Chair for the Fulton County Democratic Party, 13th Congressional District Chair, First Vice Chair and interim Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia and a member of the Democratic National Committee.

This experience with our Democratic family has guided and enriched my career path, beginning as an educator, then fighting for the rights of women and workers across the South, and finally serving the people of the 39th District in the state Senate.

As your next Chair, I want to work with you to improve upon the profound accomplishments we have achieved together.

Let's create a grant program for county parties and Congressional Districts, so that you have the resources you need to win in your local area. Let’s work to bring new people into our Party, and build a powerful progressive structure with allied organizations.

Let's use the voices of our elected officials to lift up our issues, and build a bench of candidates through regional leadership councils, that will carry the banner of our Party into the next decade.

And finally, let’s learn from the incredible progress we’ve made, and construct a year-round field apparatus that continues our work long after the election season is over.

As a member of our Party, you understand that democracy doesn’t start and stop on Election Day. That’s why I am honored to be a part of this Democratic family with you, and I am looking forward to speaking with you about the crucial next steps we can take together.

In Solidarity,
